　　筹备快七年，由“《大小谎言》组姐妹”Reese Witherspoon和Laura Dern参与开发的《微小美丽的事物》（Tiny Beautiful Things）终于获得Hulu正式八集预订，这部半小时喜剧也邀请到了《旺达·幻视》Kathryn Hahn领衔主演，《星星之火》主创Liz Tigelaar担任主创。
　　Reese和Laura以及本剧原著作者Cheryl Strayed相识于《涉足荒野》的拍摄中，当时两人相中了Liz的这本书，并迅速敲定了改编权；2015年，两人将这个项目带到了HBO，并邀请Cheryl和她的老公参与改编。不过最终两人在《大小谎言》才实现再合作（也同时拥有Liane Moriaty另本书的影视改编企划），这个项目却没有了下文。如今Hulu的参与，也最终为这本书的改编之路带来一个全新的起点。

　　RWBY背景设定在类现代但是充满着超自然力量的世界。主要人物为四个拥有各自的特殊能力及武器的女孩，她们因各种原因聚在一起组成团队并接受训练，以对抗怪物、恶棍或其他类似的团体。 在这系列之前，人类为了生存，发起了对黑暗戮兽（Grimm）的战争，直到他们发现“尘晶”（Dust）可以被用作魔力来源，这让人类得以对抗它们，并建立了文明世界。

　　本套剧集最初创意来自于恐怖片导演米克•加利斯（Mick Garris），2002年他和一众业内同好在加州共餐。席间他们相谈甚欢，惺惺相惜。在此之后，加利斯召集席间的10位导演以及其他恐怖流的高手相约共同打造一套恐怖片剧集。2005年，加利斯身兼制作人和导演两个职务，打造出每集1小时的“恐怖大师”系列（总共两季26集），唐•卡斯卡尔利、斯图尔特•戈登、三池崇史、约翰•麦克诺顿、鹤田法男等名声显赫的导演相继参与其中，联合为恐怖片爱好者奉上惊险刺激的恐怖盛宴。
　　本剧集荣获2006年艾美奖杰出主题音乐奖、2006年Sitges – Catalonian国际电影节最佳剧本和评委会特别奖。
